“Video recordings of the incident showed Pretti filming law enforcement agents with his phone and directing traffic. He was subsequently pepper-sprayed and wrestled to the ground by about six federal agents, who then shot him to death.[1][2][3] A review by The New York Times of available video found him holding a cell phone in the moments before the shooting.[4]“

Wikipedia: “On January 7, 2026, Renée Good, a 37-year-old American citizen, was fatally shot in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross.[a] Good was in her car, stopped sideways in the street when Ross walked around it and then walked back and around her vehicle. Other agents approached, and one ordered her to get out of the car while reaching through her open window. Good briefly reversed, then began moving forward and to the right, into the direction of traffic. At this point, Ross was standing at the front-left of the vehicle and fired three shots, killing her, as her vehicle passed him, turning away from him.

New York Times: “Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland,” the president said, referring to market shifts related to his repeated threats to seize Greenland. “So Iceland’s already cost us a lot of money.”

  • Perfidy is a war crime.

“The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first attack on a boat that the Trump administration said was smuggling drugs, killing 11 people last September, according to officials briefed on the matter. The aircraft also carried its munitions inside the fuselage, rather than visibly under its wings, they said.

“The nonmilitary appearance is significant, according to legal specialists, because the administration has argued its lethal boat attacks are lawful — not murders — because President Trump ‘determined’ the United States is in an armed conflict with drug cartels.

“But the laws of armed conflict prohibit combatants from feigning civilian status to fool adversaries into dropping their guard, then attacking and killing them. That is a war crime called ‘perfidy.’”

  • Trump kidnaps Maduro, says U.S. will ‘run’ Venezuela.

“Trump’s news conference raises many questions. Who exactly will be running Venezuela, as he stated the United States would do for a period of time? Trump indicated there will be a U.S. military presence in Venezuela ‘as it pertains to oil.’ What will that look like and how many U.S. troops could be deployed?

“Trump did make clear one thing: This military operation was not just about ousting a leader accused of drug trafficking, but also about expanding U.S. access to Venezuela’s oil reserves.” New York Times (Zolan Kanno-Youngs reporting)

New York Times: “‘This is Trump’s presidency in a single photo,’ wrote Senator Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts Democrat, on X, above a picture showing roof tiles and windowpanes cascading from the facade of the wing, having fallen victim to the excavators’ jaws. ‘Illegal, destructive, and not helping you.’

“The project has left historians and architects deeply alarmed. The National Trust for Historic Preservation on Wednesday urged officials to pause until it could go through the “legally required public review process.” Last week, Trump seemed to suggest to donors that “no approvals” were required for the project.”

  • Trump to order murder of more suspects…

    Source: New York Times

    URL: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/us/politics/trump-military-authorization-cartel-strikes.html

New York Times: “President Trump said on Thursday that he would bypass Congress rather than seek its approval to carry out military strikes against drug cartels that traffic narcotics to the United States, even as he vowed to expand the operation from attacks at sea to targets on land.

“‘I don’t think we’re going to necessarily ask for a declaration of war, Mr. Trump told reporters of his campaign of deadly strikes against vessels in the Caribbean Sea near Colombia and Venezuela. ‘I think we are going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country, OK? We are going to kill them, you know? They are going to be, like, dead.’”

Though he repeatedly referred to the military operation targeting drug trafficking as a “war,” Mr. Trump said he would not seek any formal approval from lawmakers to continue striking boats or expand it to include airstrikes against countries like Venezuela, where he says the cartels originate.

New York Times: “The Trump administration is considering a radical overhaul of the U.S. refugee system that would slash the program to its bare bones while giving preference to English speakers, white South Africans and Europeans who oppose migration, according to documents obtained by The New York Times.

“The proposals, some of which already have gone into effect, would transform a decades-old program aimed at helping the world’s most desperate people into one that conforms to Mr. Trump’s vision of immigration — which is to help mostly white people who say they are being persecuted while keeping the vast majority of other people out.”
